Mesothelioma widow and asbestos campaigner Nancy Tait dies at 89

Some very successful activists have been compelled to act by personal tragedy and a need for justice. Nancy Tait was just such an activist: she knew a lot about asbestos and industry attempts to cover up the risks associated with it. After her husband died of mesothelioma in 1968, Ms. Tait, a Churchill research fellow, investigated a number of Turner & Newall (T&N) sites and uncovered the company’s efforts to conceal the cancer risk that the company exposed its workers and customers to everyday.

Ms. Tait has been credited with raising awareness about the risks of asbestos exposure as much as anyone in the U.K.
